Sonequa Martin-Green is front and center on the cover of Entertainment Weekly‘s new issue, highlighting the stars of the new CBS All Access series Star Trek: Discovery!
The 32-year-old actress, best known for her work on The Walking Dead, is the first black female lead in Star Trek history.
Showrunner Bryan Fuller opened up about the diverse casting for the new series.
“I couldn’t stop thinking about how many black people were inspired by seeing Nichelle Nichols on the bridge of the ship,” he said. “I couldn’t stop thinking about how many Asian people were inspired by seeing George Takeiand feeling that gave them hope for their place in the future. I wanted to be part of that representation for a new era.”
