Exciting news for Doctor Who fans!
The BBC tweeted on Friday (July 14) that it will announce the identity of Doctor Who‘s new star on Sunday after the Wimbledon Men’s Final.
“Exclusive News: It’s Almost Time. #DoctorWho,” the network captioned the video below.
Peter Capaldi currently plays the show’s “12th Doctor.” After this year’s Christmas episode, the Time Lord will “regenerate” into the “13th Doctor,” aka the new cast member.
At the same time, showrunner Steven Moffat will be stepping down and passing off his duties to Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall.
“It’s my show right up to the point where Mr. Capaldi regenerates and at that exact moment, the show passes to Chris Chibnall and he worries about the last section of it,” Steven told Entertainment Weekly. “And I genuinely – I’m not making it up – I don’t know who it is.”
