Charlize Theron is opening up about being fired from the movie musical Chicago.
The 41-year-old actress was attached to the project back in the late 1990s when it was still in development. She was slated to play Roxie Hart, a role that went to Renee Zellweger.
“The director kicked me off it. I was really bummed about it. And I think because I had it, I was like, ‘Ah… I’m gonna make this movie’ and I got kicked off it,” Charlize said in an interview on Howard Stern‘s SiriusXM show this week.
Charlize explained that she was fired as the film changed directors and the new director, Rob Marshall, had a different vision for the role.
“Well, there was another director attached and he brought me on. And then that director got fired and this new director got brought on and he didn’t want to make the movie with me,” she said.
Renee was nominated for an Oscar for her work in 2003 and the next year, Charlize won the Oscar for her role in Monster.
